- Soil Type - if it is very sandy or heavy clay, then only certain plants are likely to thrive. However all soil can be improved with the addition of organic matter.
- Water - The type of plants you choose should be influenced by the availability of water in your area. Some plants require regular watering, while others are drought resistant and can survive long periods without water.
